In chapter 5. The Debian package management system on page 260:
The first item in the list on page 260 in section 5.12.2 speaks of a change in the naming scheme of the Debian kernel packages. Starting with the 2.6.12 kernel packages, the Debian Kernel Team has started using linux-* for the packages containing Linux kernel files.
Discussion
This change paves the way for other kernels to enter Debian proper. Where in the past you may have been looking for packages like kernel-image-2.6.8-1-k7 and kernel-source-2.6.8, you will now find linux-image-2.6.12-1-k7 and linux-source-2.6.12. The same applies to kernel headers and kernel tree packages.
